Collena Chic Olena Becomes New National Reining Horse Association Leading Dam

With the official results from the 2009 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby recorded, NRHA records show that the phenomenal Collena Chic Olena (Smart Chic Olena x Collena Freckles, by Colonel Freckles) is NRHA’s new Leading Dam based on offspring earnings—$546,185.

Though deceased, her legacy continues to explode via her offspring’s successes. Her last recorded owner was Monica Watson’s Double Run Farm in Leland, NC. A show career during which she earned more than $7,400, preceded her stint as a broodmare. She is the dam of three money-earning offspring: Wimpys Little Chic (Wimpys Little Step) NRHA’s All-Time Leading Money Earner, Futurity, Derby, and NRBC Champion–Lifetime Earnings $413,182; Collenas Finest Tafy (Footworks Finest) the 2006 Futurity’s Open Reserve Champion-Lifetime Earnings $132,986; and a 2006 gelding, Collenas Little Wimp (Wimpys Little Step).

In the number two spot is the Hall of Fame inductee Taris Little Vintage boasting offspring earnings of $532,112 for owners Bill & Patty Fingland, Rogersville, MO. Taris Little Vintage has Lifetime Earnings of $48,748 and was third in the 1994 NRHA Futurity open. She is the dam of two Futurity Champions, Hollywood Vintage (Hollywood Dun It) and Taris Designer Genes, along with five other money earners.

The 2009 NRHA Derby ran June 22-27 in Oklahoma City with 20 corporate partners making the event possible.
