The Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) at Verizon Center in Washington D.C. started competition today and runs through Sunday, October 25. This event serves as one of the country's most prestigious and competitive indoor equestrian events, with prominent riders, Olympic Gold medalists, and superstar equines competing for top honors and fabulous prize money.

A wonderful media opportunity will be available on Wednesday, October 21, from 10:30 to approximately 11:15 a.m. The 2009 WIHS is hosting Breakfast with the U.S. Park Police Mounted Unit Horses, which serve as color guard at the Washington International Horse Show.

The U.S. Park Police Mounted Unit Horses will gather outside Verizon Center at the corner of 6th and F Street. There will be bales of hay, water, carrots, and apples available for the police horses.

Trainer Rick Pelicano will be on hand to organize the Mounted Police participants.

With over 20 years of time-tested skill and authority in exceptional equine and rider training, Rick Pelicano began his distinguished career in 1982 when he landed a mounted patrol position with the Maryland National Capital Park Police.
