20th Anniversary of Fall Classic in Tryon to Host Equitation Championship

Bob Bell, President of The Classic Company, announced new additions to the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Fall Classic to be held at Foothills Equestrian Center in Tryon, NC, September 24-25, 2010. The competition will host a new championship for equitation riders broken into age groups.

“Both Carol [Kent, also of Classic Company] and I remember when there were not that many equitation classes and the age group equitation was very important at our A-rated events. We feel that with so many riders not traveling and spending as much money as they did in the past that we should recognize their excellence at our Fall show in Tryon.” Bell explained the why of their decision to revive what they believe a lost tradition.

Those eligible would be the 11 and under, the 12-14, and the 15-17 equitation riders that are members of the North Carolina, South Carolina, or Georgia Hunter Jumper Associations. Riders can qualify by being in the top 15 equitation rankings for any of the above associations and age groupings as of September 1, 2010. Those individuals will compete on Friday afternoon before a panel of judges who will score them numerically with the top six riders from each age section returning on Saturday morning to compete for the Championship title.

There are no entry fees required. “Again, we just want to reward the hard work and achievement of these young riders," Bell said. "They have the talent to compete at Indoors, but given this tough economic time may not be able to attend, but we believe they should still get their due recognition.”

Awards will include a Silver Loving Cup and special cooler presented to the winner and ribbons for first through sixth places. Further spotlighting of these victors will be their inclusion in a congratulatory ad run in The Chronicle of the Horse coupled with a special press release from Flashpoint Media Services highlighting the winners and their mounts.
