OBITUARY: Peter Widener Wetherill

Peter Widener Wetherill passed away of natural causes on February 19th 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. Peter was raised at Happy Hill Farm in Newtown Square Pennsylvania by his mother the late Ella Widener Wetherill and his late father Cortright Wetherill. He is survived by his brother Cortright Wetherill Jr, his sister in law Janice N. Wetherill and their children Amanda Widener Wetherill Holmes and Cortright Wetherill III of Malvern Pennsylvania.

Peter had a love of horses and horse sports that carried forward from his mother and fathers involvement in racing and show horses. Peter was an accomplished horseman and rode to many National championships aboard his wonderful horses Junior League, Desert Storm and Hudson.

In addition to his own riding accomplishments, he was a great supporter of the United States Equestrian Team. Most recently his horse Cedric was a member of the gold medal team in the 2008 Olympic Summer Games in Beijing, and his horse Anthem was a decade’s long member of the International Nations Cup efforts. Peter also had a great love of racing and his horses raced from Saratoga Springs; Belmont, New York to Gulf Stream, Florida.

Peter made his home in Wellington, Florida and he also owned a magnificent Chateau in France.

A viewing will be held at Palms West Funeral Home, 110 Business Parkway Sate Road 7 Royal Palm Beach on Wednesday, February 24th 2010 from 6:30pmto 8:30pm.

The funeral service will be held at St. David’s In -The Pines Episcopal Church 465 Forest Hill Blvd. Wellington, Florida on Thursday, February 25th 2010 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the New Bolton Center University of Pennsylvania 382 West Street Road Kennett Square, PA 19348.

Peter will be sorely missed by his numerous friends and family.
