Schedule Changes Announced for Camden Spring Fling Debut

by By Robbi Meisel | Apr 1, 2010, 11:58 AM

The debut of the Camden Spring Fling show, April 7-11, is mere days away. Event manager Lewis Pack wishes to announce new schedule changes that affect the Junior and Amateur riders in particular.

Divisions for the junior and amateur exhibitors have been moved to Saturday and Sunday versus the original Friday start. “We realize that many of our young riders are still in school and our adult riders have work schedules to contend with, so it was decided moving these classes to the weekend would serve them best,” Pack explained.

Another change will be the use of the main outdoor arena for both the hunters and jumpers during the first three days of the show. Jumpers will move to a separate arena for their weekend schedule on Saturday and Sunday. “Ideally we want to make sure visitors to this area have the time to explore Camden and enjoy all the area has to offer. Shifting some of the rings should allow them this chance,” Pack said

Pack also wanted to reemphasize improvements made to the new grounds, “The management at the South Carolina Equine Park has put in a new schooling area for us, and they continue to make additions almost daily. We couldn’t be happier with the facility or all it will offer our exhibitors.” Despite the close-out date of March 28, there are a few stalls for this inaugural show available.

To spotlight the talent of the hunters, the Spring Fling will play host to a $10,000 Chronicle of the Horse/United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) International Hunter Derby, sponsored by the Tack Room of Camden, SC, on Saturday evening April 10. And show jumpers take center stage on Sunday afternoon, April 11; the best of the best will vie for the big paycheck in the $25,000 Camden Spring Fling Grand Prix presented by Queen City Classic.

Exhibitors have the opportunity to enjoy the weekend’s social scene at a collection of charity parties in the ringside VIP tent offering guests a wide array of delectable eats and great entertainment. To recap the festivities planned-on Friday evening during the Willoughby Stables sponsored $5,000 Welcome Jumper Classic, there is the Down Home BBQ, complete with all the trimmings followed by the musical styling of Rusty Davis and Friends playing a variety of classic rock to beach favorites. Saturday evening will boast delicious fare at the Derby Dinner featuring a selection of tenderloins accompanied by a variety of tasty side dishes. For a fond farewell, Sunday afternoon will host the Queen’s Prix Luncheon of good ole southern comfort foods like fried chicken, homemade mac’n’cheese, and even a specialty drink to toast favorite grand prix jumpers as they take to the field in the $25,000 finale event.

Participants will appreciate that proceeds from each table or single seat sold benefit a special local organization, Roger Rules Foundation, established in the memory of Roger Jennings Davis who was the son of band leader Rusty Davis—giving Friday evening’s special performance a more personal significance. The Roger Jennings Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund has created an annual college scholarship to be awarded to a deserving Camden High School Senior.

Tables of eight and/or individual seat tickets are available for single nights or in a special package for all three big nights. An added bonus to table purchases is the inclusion of a VIP Parking Pass, which provides holders access to tentside parking.
