North American Studbook Young Horse Show Series Will Kick Off in Lexington, KY

by By the North American Studbook | Apr 30, 2010, 9:05 AM

One of the fundamental strengths of the European breeding system is the ability to show young horses affordably and in classes that are designed to show off a horse's talent, while simultaneously building their exposure and their confidence. The Young Horse Championships, the Bundeschampionat, the "Cycle Classique," the Pavo Cup, are all celebrated events for which European breeders aspire, develop and prepare their young horses. But the foundation of these high profile events is the smaller, local show where youngsters are developed in a low-cost, low-pressure environment and where their mistakes, kinks and hijinks are understood and worked out in a forgiving environment.

To help fill this void in the North American market, the North American Studbook (NAS) has developed the Young Horse Show Series, a two-day show event for all sport horses aged one through five who are intended to compete as a jumper, hunter, eventer or dressage horse. A single event to:

• Create an inclusive environment where all disciplines, breeders, trainers, riders and owners can begin their horses' show careers
• Bridge the gap between the breeding and competition world
• Create a marketplace for young horses

The series features classes you know have been redesigned to allow young horses to show off all three gaits and their athleticism. Classes you have seen in Europe have been adapted to the North American market to allow riders to school horses in a conducive learning environment. Classes you never thought you would see in the U.S., especially a jump chute competition, are now available to give young jumping horses a venue to prove their prowess over fences.

So, check out the Prize List, the classes, the fees, the prize money and then come join us at our kick-off show in Lexington, KY, May 24-25 at Spy Coast Farm. This is an event you will not want to miss!
