Eventing

At the Bromont Olympic Park in Quebec, Canada the Bromont Three-Day Event took place featuring a CCI3*, CCI2* and CCI1*. Will Coleman rode Nevada Bay to the win in the CCI3*. The pair started the competition with a stong dressage test. Bromont was Nevada Bay's first CCI3*, and Coleman took it a little slow on cross-country and entered the show jumping phase sitting in third. The pair jumped double-clear for the win with a final score of 59, besting Canadians Rebecca Howard and Jessica Phoenix in second and third respectively.

In the CCI2*, Canadian Kelli McMullen Temple and Axel Rose put in an impressive dressage effort and finished cross-country clean to go into show jumping with a 9.6 point lead, with two rails down the pair was still able to take the win. Will Faudree and Andromaque jumped clean for second place; Nate Chambers and Rolling Stone II were third.

Boyd Martin and Minotaure du Passoir lead from the start in the CCI1* to win on their dressage score of 47.5. Going into show jumping the top four riders were all separated by less than a rail. Jumping

The National tournament kicked off the 2010 Spruce Meadows Summer Series this week, attracting riders from all across the Americas. The more than 40 US riders put in fabulous efforts all week, consistently earning top placings.

On Thursday, Ashlee Bond and Cadett 7 stopped the clock at 45.38 seconds to win the $35,000 Spectra Energy Cup, beating out Olympic Gold medalist Eric Lamaze and Hickstead who finished on 46.54. Bond and Cadett 7 were also impressive in the $175,000 Nexen Cup Derby, finishing second behind Pablo Barrios and G&C Sinatra (VEN); Leslie Howard and Raimond W were third.

In the TransCanada Parcours de Chasse held on Saturday, Beezie Madden proved her mettle aboard Prima. The pair was fresh off a win on Wednesday in the $10,000 Mercer Cup. In a Parcours de Chasse, faults are converted into time meaning riders must be both clear and fast to win. The course featured 17 jumping efforts including the south bank in the International Ring. Madden was fast with a time of 84.47 seconds, followed by Rodrigo Pessoa (BRZ) in second and Leslie Howard in third.

Hot off the US Young Rider Show Jumping Tour in Europe, Karl Cook aboard Notories Utopia beat out fellow American rider Reed Kessler aboard Ice D'Ancoeur to claim a $15,000 payday in the $40,000 ATCO Structures & Logistics Double Slalom. A fan favorite, the double slalom event features "sudden death" bracket racing of 32 horse/rider combinations riding against each other in a split ring, only the rider with the fastest time moves on to the next round. For every obstacle lowered on course, three seconds are added to the combinations final running time. Both Cook and Kessler jumped their first four rounds clean, but in round five Kessler had a refusal at fence four and was unable to best Cook's time. This was Cook's first time competing in a double slalom event as well as his first win in the International Ring. Earlier in the week Kessler, who is just 15, and Ice D'Ancoeur took home the blue ribbon in the ATCO Travel Junior/Amateur Cup and in the 1.30m Gienow Junior/Amateur Jumper class.

Other US rider highlights include: Brianne Goutal and Ralvesther winning the $35,000 RBC Capital Markets Winning Round and Will Simpson and Acornia taking the $25,000 ATCO Pipelines Cup.
