This Week in International Disciplines

Dressage

Competing at the prestigious CDIO Aachen, Tina Konyot put in stellar performances in the Grand Prix, Grand Prix Special and the Grand Prix Freestyle. Starting off on Thursday in the Grand Prix, Konyot and her stallion Calecto V scored a 68.602% for a 14th place finish. In the Special, the pair put in a solid test to finish 10th with a 70.333%. Continuing to progress, Konyot and Calecto performed their Freestyle on Sunday receiving an outstanding score of 73.643% for eighth place.

Also competing in the CDIO, Todd Flettrich and Otto finished 17th in the Grand Prix and 21st in the Grand Prix Special.

The National Championships for the USEF Young and Developing Horses will be held this week, July 22-25 at Dressage at Lamplight in Wayne, IL. Young Horses, ages four - six will compete to determine National Champions in each age group. Developing Horses, ages seven - nine will compete for top honors at the Prix St. Georges level.

Driving

U.S. drivers also got in on the action in Aachen. Veteran James Fairclough finished third in the dressage phase and fourth in the cones phase, putting him in third place overall before the final marathon phase. After a bit of a rough go in the marathon, Fairclough finished 17th overall. Teammate Tucker Johnson and his team put in solid performances to finish eighth overall. The U.S. was sixth in the team competition.

At the CAI-A Le Pin au Haras in France, Katie Whaley drove her team to a seventh place finish in the Pairs Pony division finishing on a score of 174.50.

Endurance

On July 1 several U.S. riders competed in the Canadian Distance Championships, held in New Lowell, Ontario. Valerie Kanavy and her mare Tuff Enuff F A won the 84km distance. In the 160km, Heather Hoyns and Wileaway Farahs Comet finished second.

Jumping

The U.S. Show Jumping Team also competed in Aachen and had a solid third place finish in the Mercedes-Benz Preis, part of the Meydan FEI Nations Cup. The "all-girls" team of Lauren Hough, Candice King, Nicole Simpson and Laura Kraut finished on a total of 12 penalty points behind Germany with nine and the winners, Ireland, with just four faults. The third place finish means the U.S. moves into second place on the Meydan FEI Nations Cup Ranking List.

Earlier in the week, Hough rode Prezioso S to the win in the Prize of Aachen, while Beezie Madden and Coral Reef via Volotook top honors in the Prize of Europe. On Sunday, Kraut and Cedric finished 10th in the Rolex Grand Prix.

Also competing in Germany, Stefanie Schuepbach and Chiwago won Wednesday's SML Tour 1.25m class at the CSI1* CSI Am A+B Gera. Schuepbach won the same class on Friday with Double Dutch where she was also fifth with Dorian Gray. With Double Dutch, she moved up to the SML Tour 1.40m and took the win on Sunday. Christian Israel and Constanze 41 won the 1.25m class on Thursday. On the Gold Tour Lucy Davis rode Nemo 119 to a second place finish on Friday, and won the class on Saturday and Sunday with Hannah.
