The Lakota, part of the Sioux Nation, were once the most respected horsemen in American Indian history. Today, they live with 87% unemployment, the worst in our nation. The people may be hungry, yet their horses are well fed because the Lakota care deeply for their animals, despite their poverty.
Malama Lio, the Hawaii Horse Journal, is supporting the work of ThinLine Inc to sponsor a book drive for the Lakota Reservation in South Dakota, which currently has no library. ThinLine is also working with the Lakota to develop jobs on the Reservation, by creating a line of hand-made Indian tack and horse equipment that will be introduced by ThinLine in the near future. ThinLine and experienced Lakota horsemen have begun developing products that will merge the ThinLine technology with traditional Lakota riding and horse training gear.
Please send used books to ThinLine to support this very worthy cause. Especially needed are books on horse training, children's stories that feature horses, textbooks on any subject, and non-fiction works (horse-related or not). Feel free to write a personal comment to the Lakota on the front inside cover of the book. Empty your shelves of dusty books, and make a meaningful gift.
Send your books to: Lakota Dream Horse Book Drive, ThinLine LLC, 105 Hood Street #6, Durham, NC 27701. ThinLine will ship boooks to the reservation.
The Lakota Dream Horse Book Drive is the inspiration of former neurosurgeon Dr James Warson, author of The Rider's Pain-free Back and principal consultant at ThinLine. For more information about the Lakota Dream Horse Book Drive, see Dr Jim Warson's blog at www.ThinLineGlobal.com/Blog.
