Eventing

Outside of Atlanta, GA at Bouckaert Farm, The Chattahoochee Hills Horse Trials got underway, featuring a CCI2* and a CIC1*. The dressage phase determined the results in the CCI2* as the top three riders added nothing to their scores in cross country or show jumping. Elizabeth Barron and The Graduate scored a 46.90 in the dressage and put in excellent trips over the next two phases for the win. Becky Holder and Clark Montgomery both scored 47.50 in dressage, Holder secured second place on cross country where she was only one second off the optimum time.

In the CIC1* Jon Holling rode Downtown Harrison to a convincing win. After adding only time penalties on the cross country to his dressage score he finished on 46.60, nearly 20 points ahead of second place finisher Jules Ennis.

Jumping

At the Washington International Horse Show the $100,000 President's Cup Grand Prix presented by the Washington Convention and Sports Authority got underway Saturday evening. 2008 class winners, McLain Ward and Sapphire, bested 23 other entries over the Michel Vaillancourt-designed course to take home the win. Six combinations made it to the jump-off where Aaron Vale and Paparazzi 10 put in the first clean round in a time of 34.87 - they finished in second place. Vale's ride was followed by a clear trip from Pablo Barrios (VEN) and G&C Quick Star 11 who stopped the timers in 35.89 for third place. Ward entered the ring next and blazed home in 34.09, leaving all the rails up to secure the win.

In Belgium U.S. riders competed at the CSI2* Welkenraedt. Young rider Ali Wolff put in consistent performances across four days of competition, taking a fourth with H&M Necoll in the Prix Dinner Events and third in the Prix T&L with It's Magic. Wolff topped off the week with a second place finish in the Grand Prix de la Commune de Welkenraedt with H&M Necoll. With six of the seven riders going clear again in the jump-off it was the smallest margins in time that determined the winner. Wolff crossed the timers in 36.67, just off the time set by winner Gregory Wathelet.
