Information Regarding Press Accreditation for the London 2012 Olympic Games

by FEI Press Release | Jan 17, 2011, 11:02 AM

We wish to remind all written and photographic press wishing to apply for accreditation for the London 2012 Olympic Games to contact the National Olympic Committee in the country in which their media organisation is based (visit http://www.olympic.org/national-olympic-committees).

The allocation of press accreditations is the responsibility of National Olympic Committees. It is not the responsibility of the International Olympic Committee, the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG), or the International Federations. The procedure set up for the accreditation of specialised media for the 2008 Olympic equestrian events held in Hong Kong was an exception to this rule given the special circumstances and the great distance between the equestrian venue and the Olympic host city.

KEY DATES

IOC notifies all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of their press accreditation allocation for London 2010.

August 2010 – January 2011

London 2012 distributes non-valid Olympic Identity and Accreditation Cards (OIAC) to National Olympic Committees to send to their press organizations. The OIAC will act as a visa to enter the United Kingdom.

Full details on the accreditation procedure are available on the official website of the International Olympic Committee, www.olympic.org.

The FEI is aware of the high media interest for the 2012 Olympic equestrian events and suggests that journalists and photographers encountering problems with the process explained above should contact FEI Press Relations. Although the final decision on the allocation of Olympic accreditations does not rest with the FEI, the FEI will of course do its best to assist specialist photographers and journalists in the accreditation process for London.
