Albuquerque, NM - Beautiful southwest skies greeted attendees to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society Annual Meeting in Albuquerque, NM. The convention provided a chance for friends and competitors to visit and celebrate the successes of 2010 and make 2011 plans. An open schedule and planned tour provided ample opportunity to explore nearby museums, cultural exhibits and plenty of shopping in nearby Old Town and Santa Fe.
• The Annual General Meeting revealed election results, welcoming new Board member Jackie Verkuyl, Herald, CA, and returning Tiz Benedict, Sally Steinmetz and Martha Stover for another term.
• The annual fundraising auction raised a healthy $4,100.00 for the WPCSA Foundation. Many thanks to all bidders and donors for a spirited evening.
• A new photo contest designed to generate high quality photos for promotion, proved to be a popular event. Over 150 entries in 11 categories proved that the membership enjoy capturing their Welsh ponies and cobs on camera. Special congratulations go to Erica Hall who snapped the grand prize entry.
• In 1981, the Welsh Pony and Cob Foundation, Inc. was founded by the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of America. Shortly after its formation, the Foundation began awarding a $250 scholarship each year to a deserving student with an equine background. In 1986, the Foundation’s scholarship program was expanded and two $500 scholarships are now being awarded each year, when funds allow. We are pleased to award two scholarships this year to Maddie Greenlee & Connie McKenzie.
