Lexington, KY - The Board of Directors of the Midwest Charity Horse Show invites all to attend its 70th anniversary edition, set to take place Tuesday, June 14, through Saturday, June 18, at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.

In addition to celebrating its 70th year, Midwest also will celebrate the honor of being named 2010 UPHA National Honor Show of the Year. Officiating this year’s show are David Cater, Dunbarton, NH; Kim Cowart, Statesville, NC; and Renee Lavery, Simpsonville, KY.

The panel will judge the performance classes in the Saddlebred, Roadster and Hackney divisions, as well as equitation. Lavery will also judge the Morgans and Richard Wright, McHenry, IL, will judge Arabians. Midwest Charity Horse Show is held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Coliseum and runs five days with class sessions at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., daily.

New classes added this year include Walk and Trot 12 and Under, plus the Walk and Trot 12 and Under Championship. In addition, the show will be expanding its Hackney division.

Since 1988, the Midwest Charity Horse Show, an all-volunteer organization, has donated its annual proceeds to Southern Illinois University Medical School’s Camp COCO creating an endowment fund with Midwest’s contribution exceeding $154,000. Thanks to our generous sponsors, Midwest was able to donate $4,000 to Camp COCO from the 2010 show.

Camp COCO is a free week-long summer camp for children suffering from cancer, leukemia and other blood disorders. Volunteer medical personnel from the SIU School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, staff the camp. These doctors and nurses work with the children all year and enjoy giving their patients a pleasurable break from the daily rigors of hospital medical treatments.

As tradition dictates, the Midwest Charity Horse Show will delight and entertain exhibitors with their legendary hospitality with nightly parties, Tuesday-Friday nights, after the last class in barn 25Q, the famous “Party Barn.”
