The ISSRA, an affiliate of the USEF, was formed in 2008 in Lexington, Kentucky by Dr. Sally Haydon. This growing organization provides college students with an opportunity to continue riding saddle seat throughout college (or learn to ride saddle seat) by showing the American Saddlebred, Morgan, Arabian, National Show Horse and other trotting breeds of horses traditionally shown in saddle seat classes, without the college or the student having to own a horse. ISSRA members and teams participate in saddle seat riding lessons at their university or at a local stable approved by the ISSRA and show horses provided by the riding school and college team hosting the ISSRA horse show. Beginners with little or no horse experience through advanced riders who have won World or National Championships are eligible to join and participate in ISSRA. Any undergraduate or graduate student with at a minimum of a 2.2 cumulative GPA enrolled full-time in a college or university is eligible to join the ISSRA as an individual member. Colleges or universities may form a saddle seat team. More information about the Intercollegiate Saddle Seat Riding Association can be found at www.intercollegiatesaddleseat.com or on the USEF website.
