Traverse City, MI - Opportunities are endless for hunter riders attending Traverse City, Michigan's Horse Shows by the Bay this summer. Besides being located in the ultimate vacation destination of the Midwest, the varied festival schedule will be featuring new events and awards, ensuring participants that important items like earning lots of points, capturing coveted ribbons and winning big prize money can also be achieved.

It's no wonder that top junior rider Maddy Darst and Mom Mindy claim Horse Shows by the Bay to be one of their favorite summer destinations.

"Traverse City provides such a wonderful summer show for kids, families and professionals alike," said Mindy Darst, owner of Lebanon, Ohio's Lochmoor Stables. "From rings with plenty of options and fun things for the kids both on the horse show grounds and all over Traverse City, it's a place we both look forward to coming every summer." Last season, Maddy enjoyed being crowned the OVATION Leading Pony Rider and will be returning to compete for that among many other prestigious titles.

New hunter competitions and awards for this season include:
• $10,000 Open Hunter Classic
• $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Classic-Derby
• WCHR High Score Awards
• Added Pro-Hunter Prize Money
• Performance Hunter Divisions.
These events are in addition to the following hunter highlights including:
• $20,000 International Hunter Derby
• World Champion Hunter Rider Sanctioning
• Weekly Grand Hunter Awards
• $2500 Pre-Green Hunter Classic
• Weekly Rated and Non-Rated Hunter Classics

Says owner-show manager Alex Rheinheimer, "We've done a lot of listening over this past winter and by adding the new Open Classic and National Hunter Classic-Derby we hope just about everyone will find our schedule useful for them in every possible way, shape, and form. To say we offer something for everyone is an understatement. "

Each week horses will be judged by some of the country's finest hunter panels including notables Sue Ashe, John Roper, Bucky Reynolds, Scott Fitton, Karen Healey, Bob Crandall and Betty Oare among others. Crowd favorites JP Godard, Chris Brandt, and Evie Frisque are scheduled as the Hunter Course Designers.
