Whiteface Mountain 1.45m Open Jump-off Highlights Wednesday Action

Lake Placid, NY — Richie Moloney of Stonybrook, NY, rode Alsvid to victory in the Whiteface Mountain 1.45m Jump-off to highlight Wednesday’s competition at the 42nd annual Intercat, Inc. Lake Placid Horse Show.

Darragh Kenny of Ireland, who will be defending his championship this Sunday in the featured $75,000 Mirror Lake Inn Grand Prix of Lake Placid, took an early lead in the class with a four-fault ride in 33.072 seconds. However, Moloney claimed the win when he finished the course fault-free in 34.612 seconds. Second place went to Ken Berkley of Flemington, NJ, who finished fault-free in 35.346 seconds on Ax-Cent. Kenny finished fifth with third place going to Peter Lutz on Indiana 127 and fourth to Todd Minikus on Urame.

Other winners on Wednesday included Peter Lutz on April in the 1.35m Lake Placid Summit Resort Hotel & Suites Jumper Class; Paris Selon on Orlando LA in the Deeridge Farms Amateur-Owner Jumper Class; Charlotte Jacobs on Karonda Van da Schl’hof in the High Junior Jumper Class; and Andrew Bourns on La Bella Stella and Todd Minikus on Andino Von Stekerbend in the two sections of the WPTZ News Channel 5 Speed Class.

The Intercat, Inc. Lake Placid Horse Show runs through Sunday and is followed by the 34th annual Intercat, Inc. I Love New York Horse Show, July 5 -10, at the North Elba Showgrounds.

Highlighting this year's Intercat Inc. Lake Placid Horse Shows are two Grand Prix events— The $75,000 Mirror Lake Inn Grand Prix of Lake Placid presented by Intercat Inc, on Sunday, July 3 and the $75,000 Woodlea Farms Grand Prix, presented by Intercat Inc, on Saturday, July 9. Following the $75,000 Woodlea Farms Grand Prix, the Richard and Diana Feldman Perpetual Challenge Trophy for Excellence is awarded to the rider who has won the most combined prize money in Lake Placid’s two Grand Prix.

Guided walking tours of the horse show’s North Elba Showgrounds are available Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of each week for just $1.00 per person. The tours leave at 11:00 am from the Lake Placid Horse Show merchandise booth.
