More than 230 items have been donated for the 2005 Annual American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) Auction, which takes place Wednesday and Thursday, August 24-25, during the World’s Championship Horse Show in Louisville, KY. Last year, the auction raised more than $40,000 for the ASHA youth scholarship program and other youth programs.
Some of the notable items are a fine harness by Walsh Harness, a personalized charcoal horse portrait by James Crow and the cover of the American Saddlebred March/April breeder’s issue.
Other items include artwork, jewelry, memorabilia, travel packages and tack supplies. This year, about 100 decorated model horses will be auctioned that were designed by junior members and youth clubs. Many more items will be available for both the live and silent auction at the Executive West hotel in the Mary Room.
The silent auction begins each morning at 10 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. Wednesday and 3 p.m. Thursday. The live auction begins Thursday at 1:30 p.m. with Jim Price serving as auctioneer.
In addition to the auction, registered bidders who are present for the drawing will be entered to win $1,000 Thursday, August 25. No purchase is necessary to be eligible to win.
Rob Byers, Chris Reiser and John T. Jones, the trainers of the three World’s Grand Champions from last year’s competition, will be on hand to autograph World’s Championship Horse Show posters from 2 to 3 p.m.
