Hampton Classic Horse Show Expands Lead Line Division: Unprecedented Demand Prompts 25-Entry Increase

Bridgehampton, NY — In response to an unprecedented demand to ride in its two Lead Line classes, the Hampton Classic Horse Show has expanded its Lead Line division to accommodate an additional 25 entries.

The 36th annual Hampton Classic, which takes place August 28 – September 4, hosts Lead Line classes for riders age 2-4 and age 5-7 on its Opening Day on Sunday, August 28. The Lead Line classes are held in the Classic’s famed Grand Prix Ring and are judged by three-time Olympic medalist and Show Jumping Hall of Famer, Joe Fargis.

“This is by far the earliest that we have ever reached our maximum of 100 entries for the Lead Line,” said Shanette Barth Cohen, Executive Director of the Hampton Classic. "In an effort to accommodate this unprecedented demand, we are happy to allow an additional 25 entries. Lead Line is always such a highlight of our Opening Day and we are thrilled to be able to involve more riders.”

To accommodate the increased number of riders, the Lead Line competition will now begin at 8:00 am rather than the previously scheduled 8:30.

“We also want to thank the sponsors of the Lead Line gift bags—Brennan’s Bit & Bridle, Mickey Paraskevas, and the Seraphim 12 Foundation—for their generosity in providing gifts for the additional riders,” said Cohen. “We thank them for helping to make this such a special moment for these young riders.”

The Hampton Classic is one of the most prestigious horse shows in the nation and features competitors at every level from Lead Line to Olympic veterans in the Classic’s feature event, the $250,000 FTI Grand Prix and FEI World Cup Qualifier.

For those who can’t make it to the show grounds, WVVH-TV, the official Long Island television station of the Hampton Classic, broadcasts up to five hours of competition and highlights each day during the Classic. These broadcasts can also be seen online at www.wvvh.tv.
