AMHA Board to Consider Half-Morgan Registry

by severs | Aug 4, 2004, 12:00 PM

In 1996, the American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) Board of Directors (BOD) established a committee to investigate the possibility of establishing a Half-Morgan Registry. In 1997, the issue was placed on the 1998 proxy ballot as a non-binding referendum in an attempt to measure the member's interest in the issue. The results of the referendum indicated interest in the project and the BOD continued investigation in to the feasibility of the project. In 1999, the Board tabled the study until the AMHA's hardware and software conversion could be completed.

In May of 2000, the Half-Morgan Registry Committee was reactivated to move forward with their investigation. Since that time, the Committee has been working diligently. The Committee is bringing the following motion before the AMHA Board of Directors at its August meeting in Sacramento, CA:

The Half-Morgan Registry Committee recommends the implementation of a Half-Morgan Registry as follows: Registration applications will be accepted beginning Jan. 1, 2005. Registration fees will be placed into an escrow account until five hundred valid (DNA tested to a registered mrogan sire or dam) applications are received. At that time, registration certificates will be issued. The operation, rules and service of the Half Morgan Registry will be determined by the AMHA Registrar and his staff under the direction of the AMHA Executive Director. The only services provided will be registry related. If five hundred valid applications are not received within two years, fees will be returned to applicants and the Half-Morgan Committee will be dissolved.
