  - The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) has awarded the 2011 ‘Hunter Sire of the Year Award’ to the world-record breaking Elite and Premium Hanoverian stallion White Star (Weltmeyer/Glücksstern/Grande). Of interest to North American breeders, the German stallion is set to arrive in the US late February 2012 and will be standing at stud in Massachusetts.

Based on the performance of a stallion’s offspring, the annual award is given to the number-one ranked stallion in the USEF’s Leading Hunter Sires Rankings. This year, White Star finished first out of over 600 stallions. He is widely known as as a dressage stallion, however he has produced international winners in jumping, eventing, hunter and even driving.

White Star’s number-one ranking as a hunter sire can largely be attributed to the tremendous success of his unstoppable son Jersey Boy who is owned by SBS Farms of Buffalo, NY and is ridden by Jennifer Alfano at the international level of hunter competition. With the help of Jersey Boy, Alfano became 2010’s highest grossing hunter rider, winning over $400,000 in one-year alone.

Although only newly recognized in the Hunter world, this is not the first time White Star has received top honors for his genetic predisposition of producing outstanding sport horses.

In 1996, the then three-year-old White Star received international attention after breaking the world record at the 100-day stallion performance test at Adelheidsdorf, GER, where he obtained the combined score 148.7 in Jumping and Dressage, with an equally remarkable dressage score of 158.5. Also during this testing, he received the perfect score of 10 on his Temperament and Ridability. Since that monumental event, only two warmblood stallions have been able to beat his combined score.

Also in 1996, White Star won the Bundeschampionate and was crowned Federal Champion 3yo. In 1997, he won the award for ‘Best Stallion of the Year’ of Hannover and also awarded with the Freiherr von Stenglin-Prize . White Star stood at the Hanoverian State Stud at Celle and was a feature in the stallion quadrilles. White Star has had wins all the way up to the S level (Advanced dressage) in Germany and Denmark and will be lightly shown in the US in 2012.

“I would like to give you my congratulations on the purchase of White Star and this great success. White Star is by a legendary sire, Weltmeyer, and bred from the dam line of Alferate, one of the most successful Hanoverian dam lines. His breeding success shows that his genes don't lie. He stands for very typical Hanoverian qualities like character, willingness to perform and soundness,” stated Dr. Ludwig Christmann of the Hanoverian Verband, Verden, GER.

In 2002, his FN dressage index was an impressive 155, once again proving his value as a distinguished dressage stallion. Winning the Bronze Medal for 6yo dressage horses at the 2007 Bundeschampionate was White Kiss, ridden by Marion Schleypen with a score of 8.8. Recently in the US, daughter Whitney, ridden by Karen Lipp, finished third in 2010 at the Markel/USEF YH championships with a score of 8.2. White Star son Jr II competes CCI *** for the UK.

White Star has produced 8 licensed sons including Premium stallion Wunschtraumer - currently winning at International dressage, 37 State Premium mares (out of 127 of his daughters inspected for breeding) and a total of 45 horses selected as Verden Auction horses. As a damsire, White Star has been extremely successful producing outstanding horses like 2011 Swedish Dressage Champion Don Auriello, licensed sons including Herzenwunsch & Stevie Wonder, high priced auction horses such as Danny White in 2011 and many other high profile horses.

“What really makes this once in a lifetime stallion special is his personality. I actually tend to forget that he is a stallion and he is just easy going in every regard,” stated owner Dave Thind.

“Statistically his pedigree, performance and progeny have convincingly proven his exceptional dual-talent as the producer of extraordinary dressage and jumping horses. But to fully recognize the unexplained that he contains, one would have to meet him in person. Apparently he shares this magic with his offspring. Because that’s what he truly is, magical,” continued Thind.
