Iron Spring Farm has just imported one of the most popular young stallions in Holland, UB40. A four-year-old son of Olivi by Jazz, UB40 placed third in the championship keuring for dressage horses at the 2004 KWPN stallion show in Holland and received excellent scores for his gaits and dressage potential during his performance test. UB40's first foals were recently inspected and also received excellent scores and remarks from the inspectors. His foal, Armstrong M., was the high-selling foal (out of the keur elite mare Umathika by Sandro Hit) at the Midden-Nederland foal auction on September 7, 2005. The colt sold for 31,000 Euros ($38,076.)
"We are so pleased to bring a young stallion of this caliber to the United States,"said Mary Alice Malone, owner of Iron Spring and also a USDF Gold medalist. "UB40 combines the best bloodlines with outstanding movement and a wonderful temperament. We feel he will be a nice complement to our breeding program." The chestnut stallion arrived in the U.S. on August 31 and will remain in quarantine until October 7.
UB40 will be trained and ridden by Belinda Nairn-Wertman, of INSPO. Plans include the FEI Five Year Old Division in 2006. Inspectors described UB40 as a "modern, long-lined, riding-type stallion with much front end and very much charisma." He was also praised for his beautiful head and large, expressive eye. For his walk, he received an 8; his trot an 8.5 and his canter an 8. His overall dressage ability was rated an 8.5, placing him second in the dressage ranking at his performance test.
These excellent keuring scores run in the family; UB40's sire, Olivi, was the reserve champion of his championship keuring for dressage horses at the stallion show. UB40 is out of the Keur sport mare Kilucienne by Michelangelo. Kilucienne was a UTV mare and competed through Z-2 level. She descends from an important mare line with both her mother and grandmother having the predicates keur, preferent and prestatie.
UB40 joins a roster of international caliber stallions. Visit www.ironspringfarm.com to learn more about UB40 and other Iron Spring Farm stallions.
