Lexington, KY - The deadline to submit applications for American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) Youth Scholarships is Monday, April 30, 2012.

Since 1991, the American Saddlebred Horse Association has awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships to youth involved with Saddlebreds. Each year, ASHA recognizes its members in grade 11 or higher, age 21 and under, on the basis of academic success, financial need, extracurricular activities, including community service, involvement with American Saddlebred horses and personal references. An interview may be included in the selection process, and applicants are asked to write an essay, which includes information about school experiences, special interests, hobbies and ASHA activities.

The purpose of these scholarships is to encourage, support and recognize participation in all aspects of the American Saddlebred industry, as well as to strengthen the American Saddlebred industry and breed through education.

Scholarships are awarded only to high school graduates or those students whose graduation is imminent. The scholarship money will be paid directly to the institution, university, college or trade school for post-secondary educational expenses.

Please submit completed applications to ASHA ATTN: Brenda Newell, 4083 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, Kentucky 40511. If you have any questions regarding ASHA Youth Scholarships, please contact Brenda Newell by phone at 859-475-1461 or by email at [email protected].
