Waco, TX
- Going into Saturday’s National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) Championship matchups Texas A&M had already clinched the Overall National Championship. That wouldn’t mean there was any lack of drama for the day. Both the Hunter Seat and Western finals came down to raw score tiebreakers after hard fought 4-4 ties.

Texas A&M added to their Overall NCEA National Championship with a fourth consecutive Western National Championship. The Aggies narrowly defeated the Oklahoma State Cowgirls 1116.5 – 975.5 on raw score. For winning the Western bracket the Aggies were awarded with the AQHA Perpetual Trophy.

The Aggies came tantalizingly close to a clean sweep of the Championships but were denied by the host Baylor Bears in the Hunter Seat finals. The Bears were down 4-3 going into the final ride but Samantha Schaefer’s 173 gave them the point to tie the match and helped them win the tiebreaker 1192.0 – 1070.0.

“I can’t describe this feeling we have right now,” said Baylor head coach Eilen White to media at www.baylorbears.com, “all I asked was that we go 3-0, and this team stepped up and accomplished it.”

By winning the Hunter Seat Championship Baylor became the first ever Big 12 school to win the USEF Perpetual trophy.
