Turns out, he’s always hungry.
“He eats everything. Carrots, apples, chips,” said Eddie. “He really likes potato chips – I always give them to him and now he’s drinking Gatorade. He likes sugar too.”
He’s picked up that habit from his addict teammate Grandioso who has been hooked on the stuff for several years. Tremendous amounts of personality ooze from Magic and he is very clear about the things he likes.
“He likes to play, he gets turned out. He likes it a lot,” said Eddie. “He loves Steffen too. When Steffen walks down the aisle Magic is screaming and putting his head out of his stall.”
He also loves Eddie.
Magic and Eddie
Magic has been in Eddie’s care for four years. When he first arrived at Steffen and Shannon Peters’ farm in San Diego he was Shannon’s ride. After two years (and a lot of success) husband and wife decided that Steffen would take over the reins. Eddie says Magic has grown up a lot during that time.
“When he came he was a little crazy and a little spooky, now he’s wonderful and amazing and relaxed,” he said.
But Eddie won’t claim a favorite. He’s worked for the Steffen and Shannon for five years and looks after a barnful of horses.
“I love my horses, I don’t have favorites,” said Eddie. “I am fortunate to have really nice horses. I love my horses and I love my job.”
Eddie grew up in Mexico – so he’s enjoying a homecoming on his first team trip.
