Planes, Trains, Trams and GHM

Well, I have made it to Leipzig without incident. There were a couple close calls, such as when I was trying to find my way through the Frankfurt airport and customs and felt like I was spinning in circles. Which I basically was.

Then out of the corner of my eye I saw US Show Jumping Chef d’Equipe, George Morris. I was 99.9% sure he was also on his way to Leipzig as well, so I decided to shadow his every move as he navigated terminal changes, customs and going back through security. SUCCESS!

I made it to gate A4 without further interruption and the bonus was having a cup of coffee and nice chat with GHM and Kristen Coe’s parents.

I then somehow managed to finally fall asleep on the 40 minute flight from Frankfurt to Leipzig. That’s about the only 20 minutes of sleep I have had in since 6:30 am EST Monday morning. Needless to say I am struggling a little bit trying to figure which day it is and whether its 5:25 which is what my watch and phone say or 11:25 which is what the computer says.

I am going to go with 5:25. Majority rules.

I also keep questioning whether it is AM or PM. As it is a little grey and dreary here today and everything is indoors (which was awesome when the heavens opened up and it poured, I may be being slightly dramatic about this but with the vast amount of rain we’ve had in KY, even one drop is too much), the lack of real sunlight makes it feel like dusk/dawn all day.

I also gave myself a big pat on the back today. I successfully took a train from the airport to the hotel and then the tram to the venue. Anyone that has ever seen my try and get from point a to point b, knows this would be a herculean feat!

That being said the Germany people in Leipzig were very accommodating with my hand gestures and pointing. However, from now on I’m taking the shuttle that got underway this afternoon.

Enough about me though. All the American horses jogged up well today and look fit and ready to get underway tomorrow. The mood in the barn, is still quite light and everyone seems to be on form and soaking in the experience but also are ready to put their best foot forward in competition. It should be fun.

The Warm-up for the jumpers gets underway in a few minutes, so I should probably get a move on. Dressage horses jog tomorrow, but they all also seem happy and ready to go.

More tomorrow…….
