From Will:
2011 is upon us and I am gearing up for a very exciting year! In January, I usually head down to Wellington, FL to get into the ring a bit early and to escape the cold, but I’ll be holding off for awhile this year. We have great “Winter Wednesday” and “Pipe Openers” shows out at the Carolina Horse Park along with dressage shows in Pinehurst that will keep me busy with all the horses. Pawlow and Andromaque are back in full work and will not start eventing until the end of February. I plan on heading to Wellington to do a proper dressage show the 10 – 12 of February. I am excited to have Sandy Phillips (wife of Chef d’Equipe Mark Phillips) over from England this winter to help me really take my dressage to the next level; that is my main focus.
More exciting news is the arrival of 2 new horses found in Europe by Phillip Dutton. Riesling De Bussy and DHI Colour Candy have joined the Gavilan Farm and Sterling Silver Stable team. They are lovely young horses that I am just getting to know and develop a partnership with. I have a great group of working students at the farm (Jasmine Hobart, Kaitlynn Mosing, and Laura Borger) and the best manager (Nat Varcoe-Cocks) who keeps everything running very smoothly. I am very lucky! We have a full barn with lots of training going on. We’ll be ready to show it all off once the competition season gets underway.

On the non-horse front I am working hard getting the 2011 PRO Awards schedule in order with some great entertainment of performers and presenters. Stay tuned for the date but rest assured it will be a night of History in the sport. You won’t have to be a PRO member to be nominated but by the end of the night you will be! For those of you who are not going south at all I am entered in my second Westminster Dog Show, which is just like the movie! That is going to be the 15th of February and if it is anything like last year I expect some extreme comedy!
I look forward to seeing everyone soon and I am ready for the competition year to start. I hope everyone has fun training this winter and see you leaving the start box soon!
