Ferris Bueller was Right

by Helen Murray | Oct 9, 2010, 10:41 AM

At the end of Ferris Bueller's Day Off (potentially one of the best movies of all time), Ferris ends the movie saying;

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

On day 15 of WEG this seems to resonate quiet loudly. We still have driving, individual jumping, para dressage and vaulting medals to hand out, so by no means are we at the finish line yet. But we are getting closer.

For some of us (myself definately) it's easy to get caught up in the fact that you are crawling in bed too late each night, the alarm has gone off in the 5 o'clock hour too many days in a row and your fingers and toes seem to be icicles each morning. But when you actually take a second to look at everything going on around, you realize how cool the last two and half weeks have been.

For those of us here or even watching all the online or TV coverage we have had a front row seat to the equivalent of the Tour de France, the Superbowl, The World Series, The Boston Marathon, The NBA Finals, The World Cup, NCAA March Madeness and the Indy 500 all happening in one place all together.

For myself, I have gotten to see and do things I never would have imagined. I have had a chance to watch the US reiners win gold, watch the start of an endurance race, see Totalis in person, meet Mark Todd and Pippa Funnell, watch Cedric warm-up, watch and make friends with the US Para team, see vaulting in person and have the processes of getting a four-in-hand ready to drive explained to me.

For the next 24 hours, I'm going to do my best to concentrate more on the phenomenal horses and competitiors and less on missing sleeping and being a bit chilly.

Right now I'm gonna sneak out and try and catch some of the marathon in person. After all, Ferrris Bueller is an icon so he must know something.
