Burbank, CA
- The final rounds of the Markel/USEF Young Horse Dressage Western Selection Trial held at Dressage at Flintridge CDI*/Y/J in La Cañada-Flintridge, CA treated spectators and officials alike to beautiful tests showcasing spectacular talent.

In the six-year-old division, defending Selection Trial champion "Sanceo" trotted to yet another title, earning a score of 8.62 and high praise from judges Lilo Fore (4* USA), Lois Yukins (4* USA), and Jane Weatherwax (4* USA).  "We love this horse.  We want to see this horse go places, and we think he would be quite competitive in the international world," said Yukins during post-ride commentary.  "This horse has a wonderful future and we look forward to seeing and reading about him again and again."  With their two-round combined score of 8.65, Schut-Kery and Alice Womble-Heitman's Hanoverian stallion (San Remo x Rivera by Ramiro's Son II) have now earned a spot atop the USEF Short List for an invitation to the FEI World Breeding Championships in Verden, Germany in August.

For five-year-olds, the Oldenburg gelding "Regalo" (Rosario x Dandielle by Nandino) improved upon the first day with rider Lientje Schueller to score an 8.20 in the Final Test (8.17 combined score) and move into the lead to claim the Five-Year-Old Selection Trial Championship for owner Pinky Roberts.  Finishing a close second was Craig Stanley and the U.S.-bred Dutch Warmblood mare "Caliente DG" (OO Seven x Satina by Contango, bred by DG Bar Breeders Inc., owned by Brenda Linman) with a test score of 7.72 for an overall two-day average of 7.99.

Mette Rosencrantz (USA) collected another blue ribbon for her ride with Anne Solbraekke's Danish Warmblood gelding "Mosegaards Rico" (Robin x Maritza by Diamant) in the CDI Intermediaire I with a score of 69.386%, followed by Barbi Breen-Gurley (USA) riding her own "Vindicator" (Dutch Warmblood gelding by OO Seven) with 65.833%.

Young Rider Brandi Roenick (USA) rode Jen Hlavacek's "Weltino's Magic" (Westphalian gelding Weltino x Diva by Diamond Boy) to a convincing win in the Individual Test with a score of 72.325%.  Finishing second was Laura Price (USA) earning 67.895% with "Grand Makana" (Hanoverian gelding Goodman x Waidwerk by Werther, owned Joan Cvengros).  Junior Rider Cassidy Gallman (USA) continued her success with "Woden" (Hanoverian gelding Weltmeyer x Derby by Ankum) with a score of 63.596% in the Junior Individual Test.

To celebrate the day's success and the Memorial Day weekend, crowds filled the stands at the historic Flintridge Riding Club for the annual "Red, White & Blue Musical Evening"  which featured dinner service, musical freestyles, awards presentations, a young horse demonstration, and special exhibitions.
