Devon, PA - The Devon Derby at the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, held May 24 to June 3, raised $13,357.88 for Devon’s charity, Bryn Mawr.

The Derby, which was started about 80 years ago, has raised $700,000 over the course of the years.

This year, 1642 books of chances were sold,” said Marge Glennon, co-chairman with Liz Mayer of the Devon Derby.

This year’s big winner was Robin Jacquot of Collegeville, Pa., who won a two year lease on a Jetta SE, which was provided by  Fred Beans Volkswagen in Devon.

“When approached about the car lease, we were delighted to participate,” said Greg Pilong, General Manager of Fred Beans Volkswagon. “Devon is a wonderful corporate neighbor, bringing many visitors to the area. Many of our customers support the Show and so it was a natural for us.”

Jacquot had just moved to Collegeville from North Carolina and attended the show with her sister-in-law, Anne Lewis, who is from Wayne, Pa., neither of whom had ever been to the show before.

“I had never been to Devon, but I love horses and thought it would be a fun day,” said Jacquot. “I was overwhelmed by the event, shopping, people and the charity it supports, so I bought a Derby book for $10.00, never giving it a second thought!”

Other prizes offered at this year’s Derby included a Fendi watch, donated by Shulers Jewelers, a bicycle donated by Human Zoom, a Samsung Galaxy Tab, from an anonymous donor, a $250.00 gift certificate donated by Trove General Store in Paoli and four Hall of Fame tickets to a Phillies game which included a $100 dinner certificate donated by  D"Anjolell Memorial Homes.

Winners were from Devon, Havertown, West Chester and Wynnewood, Pa., and Williamston, N.J., and one winner was a Derby volunteer.
Other sponsors included Hassis Men's Shop, Americlic Language Services, Cowan's Flowers and John Fish Jewelers.
