Schaefer Wins National Hunter Pony Championship

Samantha Schaefer, 11, of Westminster, MD, rode her pony Sham’s Lognaberry to win the 2004 Wild Horsefeathers/USEF National Hunter Pony Championship. The championship was held August 8 at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, VA, as part of the USEF Pony Finals. As champion, Schaefer was awarded the International Jumping Derby Perpetual Trophy, a Triple Crown Custom cooler, a 10 inch Revere bowl keeper trophy and a saddle.

American Dreams owned and ridden by Jennifer Waxman, 12, of Chagrin Falls, OH, was named reserve champion.

The judges for the Regular Hunter Ponies we Kim Dorfman of Aiken, SC, Joseph Darby of Southern Pines, NC, and Scott Fitton of Ithaca, NY.

Other Awards:
Trainer of the Overall Champion for the Emerson Burr Perpetual Trophy: Kim Stewart of Jefferson, MD.
Buttons and Bows Sportsmanship Award: Jessica Van Brocklin of Alexandria, VA
International Challenge Trophy; State Team Award presented to the state with three or more representatives that gained the highest points - New York
