Five non-stop arenas showcased horses and riders from across the region competing to have their names engraved on perpetual trophies and take home thousands of dollars in prize money for several CDS Horse of the Year divisions.  Emerging the victor from a huge field of almost 30 competitors in the $1,000 CDS Horse of the Year Open Prix St. Georges class to claim the Bent Roswall Memorial Trophy was Louise Koch of Westlake Village, CA, riding her own Westfalen stallion "San Shivago" to a final score of 68.882%.  In the $1,000 Adult Amateur division, the Global Imaging Perpetual Trophy and a score of 65.921% was earned by "Concetta", a Hanoverian mare owned and ridden by Christine Ekstrand from Santa Monica, CA.  At the Grand Prix level, Kathleen Raine of Murrietta, CA rode her long-time High Performance and CDI partner "Breanna" to the blue ribbon, a big check, and the Sherry de Leon Memorial Trophy with 68.670%.

The CDS Four-Year-Old Futurity concluded Friday, with California-bred horses ruling the day.  In the Open division, the top five finishers earned overall scores of more than 72%; but ultimately after two rounds of intense competition, Kim Elsner rode the California-bred Oldenburg mare "Love Potion" (by Leonidas, bred and owned by Barbara Parkening) to a narrow victory with an overall winning score of 72.927%.  In the Adult Amateur division, Mackienzie Cameron rode her own charismatic Dutch Warmblood gelding "Damien DG" (Florencio x Votik-K by Don Schufro, bred by DG Bar Breeders) to an overall average of 69.691% to take the championship sash home to Santa Cruz.

Great American Insurance Group/USDF Regional Championship action continued today with  Olympian Hilda Gurney of Moorpark, CA riding her own Oldenburg "Wintersnow" to victory in the Open Intermediaire II (65.000%), while the striking PRE stallion "Karuso II" carried owner Cathey Cadieux of Malibu to a winning score of 58.355% in the Intermediaire II Adult Amateur division.  Sarah Lockman of Chino Hills, CA and Lisabeth Rothman's Hanoverian mare "High Society RS" rebounded from a reserve championship in the CDS Four-Year-Old Futurity early in the day to emerge victorious in the Open Training Level Regional Championship with a score of 71.600%, while for Adult Amateurs, Mackienzie Cameron followed up her earlier Futurity win with another big victory on a score of 73.800% with "Damian DG".  In the Open Second Level championship, Kerstin Laudemann of Camarillo, CA continued her previous day's winning ways, partnering with Karen Schumaker's Hanoverian "Wild Dancer" for the win with 71.429%.  Jacquelyn Williams (Thousand Oaks, CA) rode her own Hanoverian gelding "Ramsses" to a narrow win at Second Level for Adult Amateurs with a score of 66.369% after a tie was broken with Karen Erickson of Clovis, CA with "Far Above Par".  Rounding out the day's Regional Championship classes were the Open Intermediaire I and Grand Prix Freestyles, with Ruth Shirkey of Los Gatos, CA and "PEC Womanizer" (67.250%) winning the tricolor sash in Intermediaire I, while in the Grand Prix division, Hilda Gurney and "Wintersnow" claimed their second championship of the day with a score of 69.250%.
