USEF Announces U.S. Eventing Team Veterinary Panel and Associate Veterinarians

Lexington, KY- The USEF is pleased to announce the Veterinary Panel as well as the Associate Veterinarians for the Land Rover U.S. Eventing Team. The U.S. Eventing Team Veterinary Panel will play a vital role in the evaluation, selection and success of the Land Rover U.S. Eventing Team on team trips and championships in the coming years. The Associate Veterinarians will help in supporting team efforts when necessary. The USEF would like to thank the outgoing panel of Dr. Brendan Furlong, Dr. Catherine Kohn and Dr. PJ McMahon for more than a decade of service to the program.

The U.S. Eventing Team Veterinary Panel is composed of:

Dr. Mark Revenaugh, Treating Veterinarian
Dr. Duncan Peters, Evaluating Veterinarian
Dr. Susan Johns, Associate Treating Veterinarian

Dr. Mark Revenaugh (Portland, OR) is renowned for his ability to diagnose and manage lameness and injury in sport horses.  He is a 1991 graduate of the University of Illinois’ College of Veterinary Medicine.  Since 1997, he has served as a Team Veterinarian or Assistant Team Veterinarian for multiple disciplines.  He is FEI accredited in show jumping, eventing, dressage and driving.  In 2002, he opened Northwest Equine Performance in Portland, Oregon, a veterinary practice specializing in unique and leading-edge treatment of lameness and other performance-related issues. Dr. Revenaugh will oversee the program, liaise with riders’ individual vets and travel to some of the team competitions.

Dr. Duncan Peters (Williamston, MI) is well respected throughout the United States and abroad for his diagnostic treatment and management abilities with horses across numerous disciplines. In August 2012, he was appointed the director of the Clinical Equine Sports Medicine Program and associate professor of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to his work at Michigan State, Dr. Peters started the Sport Horse Division at the Hagyard Equine Medial Institute in Lexington, Kentucky. He is also an active member of both the USEF Equine Drugs and Medications Committee and the USEF Veterinary Committee. He is an FEI Vet Delegate and worked at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games and the FEI North American Junior/Young Rider Championships. Dr. Peters will assist the panel in evaluating the soundness and health of team horses.

Dr. Susan Johns (Middleburg, VA) also has a strong background in the treatment and maintenance of sport horses having practiced at Virginia Equine Imaging since the spring of 2002. She joined The Plains, Virginia-based practice following her graduation from Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Johns completed a two-year internship in sports medicine and diagnostic imaging at the clinic before joining the practice as an associate. She has worked closely with Sound-Eklin educating many veterinarians about direct digital radiology, and completed much of the groundwork for the joint MRI department with Virginia Equine Imaging and the Marion DuPont Equine Medical Center. Dr. Johns has previous team experience, serving as the Team Veterinarian at the 2008 and 2010 FEI Singles Driving World Championships. In her role as Associate Treating Veterinarian she will often travel with the Land Rover U.S. Eventing Team on team trips.
