With a 4-0 win in Horsemanship and 2-2 tie in Equitation over Fences the top seeded Cowgirls held a 6-2 lead over Baylor halfway through the match. But after OSU dropped reining 2-1, the Bears won 4 points in Equitation on the Flat to tie the score at 7-7. It was Cowgirl Junior Ali Rose that saved the OSU's day by earning a 159-149 win. It was the team’s only point in Equitation on the Flat and the deciding point of a thrilling match.
The Wildcats had it a little easier. Though they were technically the lower seed (they were #3, their opponent TCU #2) the Wildcats have arguably been the best NCEA team recently, and they showed that against the Horned Frogs Friday. A sweep by the western team and strong performance by the hunter seat team gave Kansas State an 11-5 win and a shot at the Big 12 Equestrian Championship.
The Cowgirls and Wildcats have met twice this season. Oklahoma State won the first meeting 15-7. Kansas State won the most recent meeting 11-8. Both teams won at home.
Baylor and TCU will meet in the third place match. The championship match and third place match both start at 10am C.T.
