At the 2005 U.S. National Arabian and Half-Arabian Horse Show, the Arabian Breeder's Association (ABA) presented its Lifetime Breeder's Award to Sheila Varian of Varian Arabians. Varian has made her mark in the Arabian horse community. Her breeding program has risen to worldwide acclaim, and she is currently the leading breeder of Arabians in the United States and Canada. She has been awarded Arabian Breeder of the Year by the Arabian Professional and Amateur Horseman's Association four times. In 2001, she received the Ellen Scripps Davis Memorial Breeder's Award from the United States Equestrian Federation. In 2003, Varian was inducted into the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, TX, the first woman from the Arabian breed to be included.

The ABA is an association of Arabian breeders dedicated to the welfare and future of the Arabian horse. The ABA provides a voice and focus for Arabian breeders, promotes and disseminates standards and guidelines for ethics and conduct, and strongly encourages existing organizations to meet their respective responsibilities regarding rules and enforcement.
