Lexington, Ky. – The 2017 $100,000 USEF U25 Show Jumping National Championship continued Friday at the CP National Horse Show with the second of three competitions. Jennifer Gates and Alex were in fine form to win the $20,000 jump-off competition and take the lead in the overall championship standings.

Eight out of the 20 combinations in the class went clear in the first round. In the jump-off, 21-one-year-old Gates (Medina, Wash.) and Evergate Stables LLC’s 13-year-old Westphalian gelding could not be beat with a clean, fast round in a time of 36.885 seconds. Watch their winning round.

Twenty-two-year-old Mattias Tromp (North Salem, N.Y.) and Avon, Swede Ventures LLC’s 13-year-old Swedish Warmblood stallion, finished second with a clean round in a time of 37.336 seconds. Local resident 17-year-old Daisy Farish (Versailles, Ky.) and Great White, her nine-year-old Holsteiner gelding, were third with no faults in a time of 38.767 seconds.

Gates and Alex lead the overall standings heading into Saturday’s third and final competition to determine the national champion. Sitting in second are the winners of the first competition on Thursday, 17-year-old Madison Goetzmann (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and Prestigious, her 10-year-old Westphalian gelding. An unlucky rail in Friday’s jump-off kept them out of the top spots in the class, but they are still in the hunt. Tied in third place are 22-year-old Uma O’Neill (Corralitos, Calif) and Clockwise of Greenhill Z, her 10-year-old Zangersheide stallion, and 21-year-old Kaely Tomeu (Wellington, Fla.) and Gentille, Siboney Ranch’s 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare.

The championship concludes Sunday with the $30,000 two round competition.

Watch the final competition on Sunday at 10 a.m. on USEF Network.
