Kimberly Wellmann discovered her passion for vaulting in 2007 and founded her own club, VorTex Vaulters, in 2010 after helping with the Friendship Team exhibition at the FEI World Equestrian Games. Throughout her college career, she trained horses, gave clinics, and longed for vaulters all over Texas and the US. Since 2014, she has helped several athletes qualify for FEI Vaulting World Championships.
Wellmann competed with her 2018 American Warmblood mare, Lunar Eclipse at the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games Tryon as a longeur for Canada and Brazil. After finishing her Ph.D. and accepting a position as a professor in Animal Science, Wellmann established a permanent location for VorTex Vaulters in Stephenville, TX, where she is head coach and continues to train horses.
In 2022, Wellmann attended the FEI World Championships in Herning, Denmark, as a groom for the U.S. team, has been active on the EVUSA Region 4 Board, and is set to compete with two individuals and a Pas de Deux in the 2023 World Cup Finals.
